As one who played in various bands from his high school days on, there are a lot of photos of Ray with drum sticks in his hand. Below are a few courtesy of Dennis Meehan, a friend and band mate from high school and college, during their days in the Roots of Evol (not a typo, it’s L-O-V-E spelled backwards). By the way, Dennis’s current band, The Plungers, plays some great surf music (with a couple albums featuring Ray on the drums).
The photo below is a publicity shot for some iteration of a band Ray played with in the mid-70’s called Kid Shalien. This photo generated another memory from our brother Tom, (who appears second from the right). According to Tom, Chester Turway (who appears in the center of the pic) borrowed Ray’s car (a ’63 Ford Falcon with only 30,000 original miles) when Ray was out of town, drove it to Minnesota and wrecked it. Don’t think insurance was involved and this proved to be one of those times that it was good to have a Father who was a car dealer! (btw I’m extraordinarily disappointed Ray didn’t save this shirt. Also, Tom claims no memory of the shirt he’s wearing in this photo!)

Below is a photo that brother Tom says could be from the band Sundance or an early iteration of Kid Shalien.
